La investigación, que está a cargo de la fiscal Claudia Palacio, es sobre un monto sustraído que asciende a 800.000 pesos. Hay grabaciones y se sospecha de una agrupación delictiva extranjera integrada por latinoamericanos que estaría implicada. De todas maneras, hay secreto de sumario y no se conocen más detalles.
Si bien es el primer caso de este tipo que se investiga en nuestra ciudad, el modus operandi existe y ha sido explotado en Europa, Asia y México durante el año pasado. El robo comienza accediendo físicamente al sistema operativo del cajero, pero una vez en control de la máquina, los atacantes pueden acceder a él de forma remota y liberar los billetes, que debe retirar un tercero en el lugar.
Las máquinas pueden soltar hasta 40 billetes en 23 segundos y, por lo que fácilmente se puede vaciar el cajero en poco tiempo.
En gran medida, el jackpotting explota vulnerabilidades propias de sistemas operativos y de seguridad anticuados.
