La noche del lunes 12 de septiembre se celebró la edición número 74 de los Premios Emmy, la gala más importante de la televisión estadounidense. Conducido por el comediante Kenan Thompson, el evento comenzó a las 21 h (hora de Argentina) y se llevó a cabo de manera presencial en el Microsoft Theater en Los Ángeles. La transmisión televisiva para Latinoamérica estuvo a cargo de TNT y TNT Series.

Succession y Ted Lasso se llevaron los grandes premios de la noche: Mejor serie de drama y Mejor serie de comedia, respectivamente. La primera era la más nominada de la noche con 25 candidaturas, mientras que Ted Lasso se llevó el mismo galardón por segundo año consecutivo. La serie de HBO también se llevó los premios a Mejor guion y Mejor actor secundario (Matthew Macfadyen) en el apartado de dramas. Por su lado, el show de Apple TV+ también ganó los correspondientes en comedia a Mejor dirección, Mejor actor (Jason Sudeikis) y Mejor actor secundario (Brett Goldstein). The White Lotus se impuso en las categorías de miniserie, llevándose todos los premios a los que estaba nominada: Mejor miniserie, Mejor guion, Mejor dirección, Mejor actriz secundaria y Mejor actor secundario.

Una de las mayores sorpresas de la noche fue el premio a Mejor actor de drama a Lee Jung-jae por su trabajo en El juego del calamar, derrotando a Bob Odenkirk y Brian Cox. Better Call Saul se fue sin ningún premio de las tres posibilidades que tenía, aunque su participación final en los Emmy será el año que viene ya que la segunda parte de la sexta temporada entraría en los premios de 2023. Hasta ahora, Odenkirk nunca pudo ganar el premio a Mejor actor en una serie dramática por su protagónico en la serie de AMC, habiendo sido nominado cinco veces entre 2015 y 2022.

Quien también se llevó el mismo premio por segundo año consecutivo fue Zendaya, quien se alzó con el Emmy a Mejor actriz de drama por su labor en Euphoria. Geena Davis fue merecedora del Governors Award de este año por promover la igualdad de género en la industria del entretenimiento con su Geena Davis Institute On Gender In Media. Las series Hacks y Abbott Elementary también recibieron galardones.
